Summer 2022
Impact of COVID-19
We had a very safe and successful summer in 2021 thanks to multi-layered mitigation strategies that we incorporated into our program and the efforts of our camper families to make sure that campers arrived to camp healthy.
As we prepare for summer 2022, we continue to monitor the course of the pandemic and the guidance from the CDC and state of Maryland. We are also watching school policies regarding vaccination requirements.
In general, we are hoping to return to more normal camp programming, both in size and content, with the goal of another safe and fun summer for our camp community. However, as conditions or guidance indicate, we will return to previous strategies such as masking and pods that were successful in 2021. At this time, our Medical Advisory Team is strongly encouraging vaccination for all campers. As more evidence accumulates in the months leading up to camp, we may be requiring COVID vaccination and/or testing.
Planned Program Changes*
Instructional Activities are back!
Once again, campers will be able to choose their own adventure for three of the five periods of their camp day by individually selecting from our wide range of instructional activities. This means that some activities that we couldn’t offer last year will be back - like waterskiing, fishing, international cooking and many of our sports and creative arts activities. One-week campers will get three instructional activities, and two-week campers will get six instructional activities - three each week of their session.
Electives are now Cabin Activities
We heard you! One of the silver linings that came out of pod-camp in summer 2021 was the feedback from many families that their campers enjoyed doing more activities with their cabinmates. So, rather than going off on your own for electives, campers will now get to do our most popular activities like banana boat, tubing, pontoon boat, zipline, and giant swing together with their cabinmates. One-week campers will have five cabin activities, and two-week campers will have ten cabin activities. For the list, see the bottom of the Activity Choices page.
Friday bus to Falls Church, VA
For now, we are forming a waiting list for the Friday bus to Falls Church. In the spring, we will confirm that we can offer this service once COVID protocols are clarified. If you are interested, please sign up for the waiting list now, and we will be in touch in the spring to finalize the plan.
Two-week amusement park trip
At this time, we are planning to offer our off-site amusement park trip again for two-week campers. In addition to the full-day trip, their weekend will include a talent show, entertainment, cabin activities and an afternoon festival with music, water activities, and inflatables much like we did in 2021.
More international staff
We missed having many of our international staff in summer 2021 due to travel and visa restrictions. But now that restrictions on international travel are being relaxed for fully-vaccinated individuals, we plan to have more international counselors this summer.
